Speculation about Light

- The Sixth Ecological Balance Law or The Catalyst Law states that it is the movement of light that keeps the molecular structures of life intact. Light allows existence, life, death, and molecular structure to unfold in all their complexity but, ironically, does not itself have a structure. Light is unique in that there is no mass associated with light's energy. Our own Grandfather Sun is the catalyst that creates the energy sources that sustain all the cyclic systems on this planet. Truly, Grandfather Sun makes love with Grandmother Earth and all the Children are born. The literal interpretation of “light” can also be expanded to include the light of consciousness as well. Consciousness, or “world soul” keeps the web of life integrated and whole.
Light is really the only force or energy form that we know of that can be transmitted in a useful energetic form over long distances. The strong and the weak forces both work over the tiny distance range of intranuclear space. The gravitational energy force acts over long distances but can not be harvested extraterrestially (to our knowledge) for work. Electromagnetic energy, or light, is unique because it arrives on the planet in a useful form and is available to do work. Everything we see, have and are is because of light. So, what is it?
Light is electromagnetic radiation which is a form of energy. Electromagnetic radiation encompasses more than what we normally think of as visible light. The electromagnetic spectrum includes radio and TV waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet), ultraviolet, gamma rays, X-rays and cosmic radiation. Outside of the visible range, humans cannot perceive light, but we certainly experience the effects of light's energy.
Light has no molecular structure, it has no mass and it is not matter. As such, light has been the source of one of this century's greatest mysteries: the nature of light is thought to possess both wave-like and particle-like properties. The wave-particle duality of light has amused and frustrated physicists and lay people for decades. How is it possible for light to be both a wave and a particle?
Light is commonly measured in wavelengths as indicated by the electromagnetic spectral continuum shown above. Waves, by nature, do not consist of separate, particulate entities. They are collective in Nature and cannot be separated into constituent parts. Light waves form troughs and crests and interference patterns, all of which are characteristic only of wave forms. On the other hand, it was discovered that light travels in discreet packets of energy called photons. Einstein won a Nobel prize in 1905 for the first conclusive evidence of photons. It is possible to calculate the energy possessed by a single photon at a particular wavelength. Photons can be measured and studied as separate entities, characteristics of a particle.
Up to now light has only been examined as a physical or tonal reality. Light is also used to describe non-physical, nagual realities such as consciousness. We frequently speak of “the light of reason” or ideas as “light bulbs” and an excited state is “turned on”. Most telling, the ultimate goal of many spiritual paths is “enlightenment” and highly evolved beings are spoken of as having clean auras, surrounded by halos and as radiant beings. Upon death, we are told to “go for the brightest light”. Stars, the light beings of the heavens have served as sources of inspiration and dreaming since always.
The concept of consciousness as the nagual equivalent of tonal light is attractive for a number of reasons. Consciousness and light marry the as above and so below: As light or electromagnetic energy holds molecular structures intact, so does consciousness or “world soul” hold the earthly or even cosmic structural pattern together. This idea is related to Rupert Sheldrake’s proposal of morphic fields, the retained-memory energy fields that build up around common attitudes and practices, and to James Lovelock’s Gaian Theory, the realization that the Earth or Gaia has a “world soul”. If these two theories are wedded together, then it would be possible to say that Gaian consciousness operates through resonant or morphic fields. Morphic fields are thought (by some) to explain behavioral, social and conscious (mental) patterns that are transmitted without diminished affect across time and space. These fields contain inherent memory so organisms that “learned” in one area are then “taught” in another. This memory of evolutionary progression insures that organismal and planetary evolution continues to advance and does not begin to loop into the same learning curve over and over. In the Twisted Hairs paradigm, these concepts are equivalent to the concepts of the planetary and collective dream with which we seek to merge our personal and sacred dreams on our path towards enlightenment.
The wave-particle duality of light led scientists to speculate about whether other forms of energy (i.e., life forms) may also possess a wave-particle duality nature. Another physicist, de Broglie, speculated that it is only at extremely small masses like that of an electron, that the wave nature of matter becomes significant. At higher masses, the particle nature swamps out the effects of the wave nature. For this reason, we do not see our own wave nature, only our particle nature. It is amusing to speculate what the wave nature of a human may be. This may be the hidden interface between humans and may lend some scientific backing for modern theories of interaction and influence such as Sheldrake's morphogenetic field theory, telepathic communication or "vibes".
Because light is the one energetic source that is not limited by distance, it is the perfect medium to carry morphogenetic field information and telepathic communication. This function would be part of the smeary nature of the wave phenomenon, where waves exist in more than one place simultaneously. This smeary nature makes communication or information transmission instantaneous (at least subjectively because light travels so fast compared to the human reference point) and available at many points simultaneously.
If this is so, why then aren’t more people able to observe transmitted energy fields and experience telepathic communication? There must be a zillion zillion opportunities for receiving this king of data every second. In order to not be overwhelmed we must train ourselves to selectively filter energy and data input. By the time we consciously want to learn to unfilter we have learned the lesson all too well. It may be that we can learn to re-tune our “receiving stations” to widen our perceptions. Which organs are likely to be those that perceive the light transmissions? Probably the eyes, since we know they are designed to receive photons (packets of light) and probably also our assemblage points, themselves light bodies.
In the cases where people are able to experience telepathic communication there is usually some extraordinary bond between the people (attention = power). Twins and mother-children are some of the groups that frequently report knowing things extrasensorily. It also happens that when people are exposed to a unifying force such as ceremony or drumming that their experience of telepathic communication increases. It may be that in the case of drumming, the proximity to the beat facilitates the synchronization of brainwaves thus facilitating telepathy. Michael Harner has researched this particular aspect of shamanic drumming.
The wave nature of the human may also be the mechanism that accounts for the ability to double or be at more than one place at a time. The question remains: how to get in touch with our wave natures? The understanding of the interconnected and interreliable, non-nothingness nature of the universe is at least a starting place. “I smear, therefore I am”.

The interplay between light and consciousness manifests vision. The current scientific explanation for vision involves light moving from an image into receptors in the eye to form an inverted image in the retina which is then translated into electrical and chemical signals in the optical nerve and cerebral cortex and interpreted as an image that is “seen” or felt to be outside of the brain which actually holds the image inside it. This explanation is a little incredible when we really stop to think about it. The image of a tree is formed inside the brain but experienced outside. The conventional vision theory implies a one-way travel of light into the brain and a mental projection outside. The mental projection of the tree outside may be the nagual or consciousness component to the light image that traveled inside the brain. This means that our very vision of all of life is based on projection!
If it is true then, that something then emanates from the eyes “after” (remember something like an image traveling at the speed of light would be subjectively experienced as instantaneous travel) the image is received by the brain and this something is the consciousness component to the light, then the entire paradigm of mind over matter must evolve to include phenomena that are now labeled as crack pot or paranormal.
In the Twisted Hairs paradigm the emanations of the eye as consciousness are known as “the gaze of power” and it is considered quite possible to alter or influence physical reality by eye contact or consciousness contact. The idea of emanations from the eye is not new; there is a long history of healing glances and evil eye superstitions. What is fresh in this concept is the linkage of light and consciousness through perceptual, visual contact with the environment.
An alternative explanation of vision is this: It may also be that photons of light do not make a one-way trip but are smeared or stretched from the image into the brain while still residing at the image. The wave nature of light does not exclude this possibility of simultaneous contact. In this case, the eyes receive the light energy emmisions from the object and “translate” the light energy into a visual image. The function of the eyes, then, is purely as a receiver station and the interpretation of the received light energy is left to the brain. This theory is more satisfying, perhaps, becuase we do not thenm have tro think that everything we see is actually our projection, a concept that serparates us from reality.
