Speculation about Light

- The Sixth Ecological Balance Law or The Catalyst Law states that it is the movement of light that keeps the molecular structures of life intact. Light allows existence, life, death, and molecular structure to unfold in all their complexity but, ironically, does not itself have a structure. Light is unique in that there is no mass associated with light's energy. Our own Grandfather Sun is the catalyst that creates the energy sources that sustain all the cyclic systems on this planet. Truly, Grandfather Sun makes love with Grandmother Earth and all the Children are born. The literal interpretation of “light” can also be expanded to include the light of consciousness as well. Consciousness, or “world soul” keeps the web of life integrated and whole.
Light is really the only force or energy form that we know of that can be transmitted in a useful energetic form over long distances. The strong and the weak forces both work over the tiny distance range of intranuclear space. The gravitational energy force acts over long distances but can not be harvested extraterrestially (to our knowledge) for work. Electromagnetic energy, or light, is unique because it arrives on the planet in a useful form and is available to do work. Everything we see, have and are is because of light. So, what is it?
Light is electromagnetic radiation which is a form of energy. Electromagnetic radiation encompasses more than what we normally think of as visible light. The electromagnetic spectrum includes radio and TV waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet), ultraviolet, gamma rays, X-rays and cosmic radiation. Outside of the visible range, humans cannot perceive light, but we certainly experience the effects of light's energy.
Light has no molecular structure, it has no mass and it is not matter. As such, light has been the source of one of this century's greatest mysteries: the nature of light is thought to possess both wave-like and particle-like properties. The wave-particle duality of light has amused and frustrated physicists and lay people for decades. How is it possible for light to be both a wave and a particle?
Light is commonly measured in wavelengths as indicated by the electromagnetic spectral continuum shown above. Waves, by nature, do not consist of separate, particulate entities. They are collective in Nature and cannot be separated into constituent parts. Light waves form troughs and crests and interference patterns, all of which are characteristic only of wave forms. On the other hand, it was discovered that light travels in discreet packets of energy called photons. Einstein won a Nobel prize in 1905 for the first conclusive evidence of photons. It is possible to calculate the energy possessed by a single photon at a particular wavelength. Photons can be measured and studied as separate entities, characteristics of a particle.
Up to now light has only been examined as a physical or tonal reality. Light is also used to describe non-physical, nagual realities such as consciousness. We frequently speak of “the light of reason” or ideas as “light bulbs” and an excited state is “turned on”. Most telling, the ultimate goal of many spiritual paths is “enlightenment” and highly evolved beings are spoken of as having clean auras, surrounded by halos and as radiant beings. Upon death, we are told to “go for the brightest light”. Stars, the light beings of the heavens have served as sources of inspiration and dreaming since always.
The concept of consciousness as the nagual equivalent of tonal light is attractive for a number of reasons. Consciousness and light marry the as above and so below: As light or electromagnetic energy holds molecular structures intact, so does consciousness or “world soul” hold the earthly or even cosmic structural pattern together. This idea is related to Rupert Sheldrake’s proposal of morphic fields, the retained-memory energy fields that build up around common attitudes and practices, and to James Lovelock’s Gaian Theory, the realization that the Earth or Gaia has a “world soul”. If these two theories are wedded together, then it would be possible to say that Gaian consciousness operates through resonant or morphic fields. Morphic fields are thought (by some) to explain behavioral, social and conscious (mental) patterns that are transmitted without diminished affect across time and space. These fields contain inherent memory so organisms that “learned” in one area are then “taught” in another. This memory of evolutionary progression insures that organismal and planetary evolution continues to advance and does not begin to loop into the same learning curve over and over. In the Twisted Hairs paradigm, these concepts are equivalent to the concepts of the planetary and collective dream with which we seek to merge our personal and sacred dreams on our path towards enlightenment.
The wave-particle duality of light led scientists to speculate about whether other forms of energy (i.e., life forms) may also possess a wave-particle duality nature. Another physicist, de Broglie, speculated that it is only at extremely small masses like that of an electron, that the wave nature of matter becomes significant. At higher masses, the particle nature swamps out the effects of the wave nature. For this reason, we do not see our own wave nature, only our particle nature. It is amusing to speculate what the wave nature of a human may be. This may be the hidden interface between humans and may lend some scientific backing for modern theories of interaction and influence such as Sheldrake's morphogenetic field theory, telepathic communication or "vibes".
Because light is the one energetic source that is not limited by distance, it is the perfect medium to carry morphogenetic field information and telepathic communication. This function would be part of the smeary nature of the wave phenomenon, where waves exist in more than one place simultaneously. This smeary nature makes communication or information transmission instantaneous (at least subjectively because light travels so fast compared to the human reference point) and available at many points simultaneously.
If this is so, why then aren’t more people able to observe transmitted energy fields and experience telepathic communication? There must be a zillion zillion opportunities for receiving this king of data every second. In order to not be overwhelmed we must train ourselves to selectively filter energy and data input. By the time we consciously want to learn to unfilter we have learned the lesson all too well. It may be that we can learn to re-tune our “receiving stations” to widen our perceptions. Which organs are likely to be those that perceive the light transmissions? Probably the eyes, since we know they are designed to receive photons (packets of light) and probably also our assemblage points, themselves light bodies.
In the cases where people are able to experience telepathic communication there is usually some extraordinary bond between the people (attention = power). Twins and mother-children are some of the groups that frequently report knowing things extrasensorily. It also happens that when people are exposed to a unifying force such as ceremony or drumming that their experience of telepathic communication increases. It may be that in the case of drumming, the proximity to the beat facilitates the synchronization of brainwaves thus facilitating telepathy. Michael Harner has researched this particular aspect of shamanic drumming.
The wave nature of the human may also be the mechanism that accounts for the ability to double or be at more than one place at a time. The question remains: how to get in touch with our wave natures? The understanding of the interconnected and interreliable, non-nothingness nature of the universe is at least a starting place. “I smear, therefore I am”.

The interplay between light and consciousness manifests vision. The current scientific explanation for vision involves light moving from an image into receptors in the eye to form an inverted image in the retina which is then translated into electrical and chemical signals in the optical nerve and cerebral cortex and interpreted as an image that is “seen” or felt to be outside of the brain which actually holds the image inside it. This explanation is a little incredible when we really stop to think about it. The image of a tree is formed inside the brain but experienced outside. The conventional vision theory implies a one-way travel of light into the brain and a mental projection outside. The mental projection of the tree outside may be the nagual or consciousness component to the light image that traveled inside the brain. This means that our very vision of all of life is based on projection!
If it is true then, that something then emanates from the eyes “after” (remember something like an image traveling at the speed of light would be subjectively experienced as instantaneous travel) the image is received by the brain and this something is the consciousness component to the light, then the entire paradigm of mind over matter must evolve to include phenomena that are now labeled as crack pot or paranormal.
In the Twisted Hairs paradigm the emanations of the eye as consciousness are known as “the gaze of power” and it is considered quite possible to alter or influence physical reality by eye contact or consciousness contact. The idea of emanations from the eye is not new; there is a long history of healing glances and evil eye superstitions. What is fresh in this concept is the linkage of light and consciousness through perceptual, visual contact with the environment.
An alternative explanation of vision is this: It may also be that photons of light do not make a one-way trip but are smeared or stretched from the image into the brain while still residing at the image. The wave nature of light does not exclude this possibility of simultaneous contact. In this case, the eyes receive the light energy emmisions from the object and “translate” the light energy into a visual image. The function of the eyes, then, is purely as a receiver station and the interpretation of the received light energy is left to the brain. This theory is more satisfying, perhaps, becuase we do not thenm have tro think that everything we see is actually our projection, a concept that serparates us from reality.

Seventh Value

The Seventh Value of the Everything from a Sacred Law Perspective
THE SEXUAL, PASSIONATE CONNECTION TO EVERYTHING:
WE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!

The following is an excerpt from sacred Law School materials. For more information, please see www.sacredlaws.com

We know what connection feels like. We know what passion feels like. We know what it is to catalyze our life’s work. We have the tools – we have what we need! And yet here with the Seventh Value, we are presented with a paradox of the human condition: apparently, this is not an easy value to connect to and yet it’s all about connection. How do we find the entrance to this value’s matrix that we have lost again and again? The key, perhaps, lies inside the soul whose hungers are being fed. Without the fundamental fuel of the soul – the hungers – we lack the ability to connect to ourselves much less the Everything. So the place to start all our connections - inside and outside - is through the nourished hungers. We know we must feed our hungers, right?
With our hungers properly cared for, we continue the quest for connection. What do we know about connection? Well, we know a few things, that’s for sure! We know that we can’t afford separation, neither from ourselves or others or life. Separation eats us up from the inside, makes us sick and isolated, and robs the world of our beauty. We also know that good connections are made through the good old fashioned elemental balanced choreography of our fundamental nature. Is it really that simple? Sure – deceptively so! We know that when we truly give with open hearts and without attachment we manifest happiness. Dipped in the waters of our heart space we come up refreshed and happy. We know that when we are receptive in our minds to reality as it really is, raw, unfiltered and abundant, it creates an internal stance of humor. Cleansed by the winds, our strong minds can always fin something funny going on! Isn’t that so? We know that when we carefully care for our bodies and transform and hold the available energies into usable daily energy that we can count ourselves healthy. Solidly grounded and earthily rooted in wholesome energy, we just plain feel good. That’s no small thing! We know that when we expand our spirits into the Children’s Fire of our own spirit that we determine the course of our Path without fear of the unknown. The passion fire raises our spirits from the ashes of dead dreams, dreams new dreams and renews hope. Yes! Go spirit! We can cheerlead ourselves into hope! We know that when we engage sexually from a place of pleasure, knowledge, respect, union and potential creation that the wheels of our lives are greased and harmony results. We know what happens if we don’t, don’t we? Yes, we know all of this!
What else? We breathe with the world in balanced harmony and we use our soul’s contracts to shape the rules of our engagements. We know how to use our contracts to do this. We diligently use the fiber ties we know that are appropriate to the particular engagement and our level of understanding. We operate from the highest A Point station possible: we know what it feels like inside when we are on and when we are off. We know how to shift our A Points – we can even do it all by ourselves! We know how to shoot light arrows instead of dark arrows and we know how to balance our auric bodies with crystals. We know how to engage with the Twenty Teachers of life. We know to periodically re-set our well-being and growth with a sweat lodge ceremony or a flowering tree ceremony or a rite of passage or a healing or a gateway ceremony or a Sundance. Oh yes, we certainly do know how to passionately connect to the Everything! We can find the center of the matrix and live there if we choose! Do we choose to be a Victorious Warrior?

A few questions that might give you a thread to follow to the center of the matrix:
Heart
How do you express your heart?
How do you express your care?
Do you enjoy life?
Do you give your emotions freely without worrying what happens?
Can you be intimate with friends and share?
What makes you happy?
What do you give freely and easily just for the fun of it?
What can you feel your heart connected to right now?
Are your heart’s hungers fed?
Write down the one word that will help you maintain the connection of your heart to the Everything.

Can you admit your mistakes and laugh about them?
Can you hold humor about your situation deeply within your mind?
Are your mind’s hungers fed?
Write down the one word that will help you maintain the connection of your mind to the Everything

Body
Do you embrace others intimately easily? Hugs? Kisses? Touching?
Are you affectionate? Are you sensual?
Do you enjoy life through your five senses?

6th Value

The Sixth Value: The Statement, Stand and Stance We Take Towards Knowledge - A Sacred Law Perspective

The following is an excerpt from Sacred Law School materials. For more information, see www.sacredlaws.com

Smack in the middle of the Razor’s Edge years, we are all being adequately challenged with the sixth value: the statement, stance and the stand we take in relationship to general knowledge. Collectively as a tribe and individually, the Everything is demanding that we re-examine what we really know, what we think we know and to separate that reality from the pretense reality of what we believe and from our conditioned education. The sixth value overlays with the Larien of dreaming and the magickal Law of Absolute Fertility. Our dream will be poor, puny and sterile if we do not have the knowledge with which to fuel the imagination of what is possible to dream. The Dawn Light Beauty Way Wheel (see the Six Cosmic Laws, Sacred Law manual, Vol. I) details the steps to gaining a renaissance level of general knowledge. We must have a working knowledge of what is going on around us: political astuteness, business savvy, cultural hipness, computer know-how, scientific grounding and artistic sensitivity are just a few of the requirements in this information age. Ignorance is a tragedy and it is everyone's responsibility to relieve themselves of their own ignorance. Without knowledge, we have no fertile dream.

East to say; hard to do! We are seemingly assaulted on all fronts by conflicting data. We can find apparently credible authorities to express whatever opinions and theories we favor and we can find an equal number of so-called experts expressing the 180 degree view points! Our nagual, Thunder Strikes, insists he has real, working, Elder knowledge on The Faces of Evil, the current monetary situation, political candidates, religious agendas and environmental issues. Much of what he is teaching flies in the face of dearly and long-held political, social and environmental stances and in many cases, conventional wisdom. Remember, though, that where there are buttons pushed, there are corners to be cleaned! Where to turn to sort this out? How to walk through this minefield?

The first thing that all new apprentices are taught on this path is to not believe anything, but to try the knowledge and see if it grows corn. And right now, sorting through the miasma of conflicting information is the greatest warrior’s task and stalking assignment you can ever do. We have the tools and if we put our attention and power to stalking our own truth, we will find it, hidden in some shadowy dark corner. Let’s try leveling the whole field and starting from scratch. What does that look like? First of all, it looks like suspending all beliefs, and parking our holy cows in a nice grassy field for a while. Secondly, from this clean-swept mind, we begin to gather information, not judging it, just gathering. We listen to Rush and NPR and the Libertarians. We read documents on all sides of the issues: the Worldwatch Institute and the Cato Institute, for example. Yikes! Next we test and challenge our information, assembling a new reality based on knowledge that passes the reality tests. We look at the sources, examine the profit/loss profiles, the funding resources, the hidden agendas. Finally, into this chaos, we weigh the truths we have uncovered against our own bottom line values and determine for ourselves - with free thinking - what is really going on. No matter what conclusions we come to, we must always remember that we do not know the end of the story!

Some question to ask yourself:
Heart
Are you happy with what you know?
Does learning make you joyful?
Are you satisfied with your knowledge base?
Do your opinions and beliefs have emotional content?
Do you get emotional when you express your knowledge?
Do you get emotional when others express their knowledge?

Mind
What do you really know?
Do you know what you don't know?
Are you learning everyday?
How much new knowledge do you seek and take in and use?
Do you have a thirsty hungry mind?
From which sources to you gather information and knowledge?
Which sources do you exclude and why?
How balanced is your information gathering?

Body
Where do you gather knowledge about developing skills and abilities?
Who trains you?
How much time do you put in? Discipline?
Do you use the physical knowledge you have?
Are you committed to learning physical skills?
Do you feel your knowledge in your body or is it intellectual?
Does your knowledge “grow corn”?

Spirit
What do you teach?
Can you converse intelligently on many subjects?
Are you confident or arrogant about what you know?
Are you threatened by others' superior knowledge?
Do you know yourself?
Are you interesting to listen to?
Do people enjoy it when you talk?
How determined are you to gain real knowledge?
How many paths have you pursued for knowledge?

Passion
Are you excited about what you know?
About what you learn?
Does leaning something give you an energy rush?
Are you curious?
What encourages you to learn?
Are you enthusiastic?
Can you weave all your knowledge together into a coherent whole?
Does your knowledge support your bottom line principles?

The Fifth Value

The Fifth Value of the Condition of the Bodily Appearance:
A Sacred Law Perspective

Exceprted from Sacred Law School materials. For more information, go to www.sacredlaws.com

The fifth value of the condition of the bodily appearance is a very tricky value – it can so easily be misunderstood! On the surface of things, this value is about our literal body appearance, our presentation to the world. And while this is an important aspect, surely, this value is not limited to how we look but includes those aspects of ourselves that are less visible such as self worth, how well we perceive and interpret reality and simply the joy we feel in living.
Our body image, or how we perceive our factual, physical bodies, must come into alignment with our self image, the perception and measure of our whole selves. We need to take stock of our body’s measure, come to peace with the things we can’t change, change the things we can’t live with and then get on with the business of living life! The next step is reconciling and aligning our self image and body image with our highest imagination of how we present and carry ourselves in the fulfillment of our destiny, to become what we call our living sacred image. The fifth value teaches us that our understanding of what we are, how we look and our deepest desire to appear to the world as our most excellent selves is a crucial aspect of living life in a body. This is a worthy hero’s journey in and of itself but still only scratches the surface of what the fifth value holds.
In addition to the body image and sacred image issues, we can also apply an overlay here with the Fifth Larien of Translation and Interpretation (the two female potential faces), Integration (the male, active face) and Seeing (the child face or the result). This value speaks to us of how useful and essential our bodies are in gathering data and assembling our subjective reality in alignment with true reality. The fifth value hints at how important our bodies are to our understanding of the world and our place in it. This value demands that we consider the entirety of our luminous egg cocoon and its interaction with the world of life. Are our ten eyes and five ears all functioning? Are we paying attention to and translating the input of their data or are we only listening to our tonal eyes and ears? Is the octagonal mirror functioning at a high enough level that our understanding corresponds to what is really happening or is our experience interpreted by pretense? Are we assembling at a high enough A point station to understand and truly see what is required in the space in the moment or are we locked into a limited world view? Are we able to glean the reality of what is present in our space or are our bodies so shut down and hampered by pretense that we actually have no clue what is really real and what is illusion? What daily practices do we engage in that support the purity and the awakening of our entire self? The demand from this value is the excellence condition of our whole luminosity.
Digging a little deeper, we find the Fifth Magickal Law is the Law of Absolute Livingness. Our soul is alive in all things, just as all things are alive in our soul. And our soul is alive inside our bodies! The way we touch the universal livingness is through our bodily senses and if we don’t bother to fully revel in our senses, our bodies, our understanding of life’s experiences and ultimately, our ability to be and see, wither and life becomes a little flatter everyday until it is no longer very valuable and we cruise right on out of life having only ever been partly alive! Ouch!
Think about the times in your life when you have been acutely aware of every single thing around you. Where were you?; what were you engaged in? We certainly can all acknowledge that we are very aware of the smallest nuances (even a glance) when new, raw sexual energy is at play. Even the expression “turned on” is an indication of this sensitized and receptive state. This level of awakeness is the kind of attention and alertness that we need to bring to all our senses, to all our eyes and ears and every part of our luminous egg cocoon if we are to be fully in alignment with the fifth value. The value of feeding our senses on a daily7 basis cannot be ignored. Just as our soul’s have hungers, our bodily senses also have hungers. The great news is that our senses are really a joy to feed if we take the time and care to identify how. Our body is happy, our soul is happy and life is good! The fifth value is about the art of living life in a body!

The Fourth Value

The Fourth Value of The Everything: Strength of Mind – A Sacred Law Perspective

The following is an excerpt from Sacred Law School materials. For more information, see www.sacredlaws.com

The fourth value is ‘strength of mind’ and it is the most determinant value. The Great Spirit expresses it’s strength of mind through the Fourth Universal Law, the 0-9 Law, or constant interaction with the Everything. The 0-9 Law teaches us that all energy follows a pattern of movement from 0 to 9: all energy starts at 0, moves outward 9 times and then folds back in on itself. Between 0 and 9 are ten steps; each of these ten steps carries a particular energy that describes an aspect of energy movement: 1-Focus; 2-Substance; 3-Form; 4-Determination; 5-Understanding; 6-Imagination; Freedom; 8-Pattern; 9-Chaos; 10-Completion. In following the movement of the Everything to completion, we align our minds with Great Spirit’s strength. It is necessary to know which aspect of the movement of energy we are engaged with in order to apply our strength of mind, intent and intending with correct action. The 0-9 Law movement and the values inherent at each step create the pattern of the Universe. Understanding of the movements leads to the wisdom of the mind, the knowing when completion is achieved and the ability to catch the timing to begin the new focus (start again at 1). This teaching reminds us that there is value to everything including the process and that the attention we place on people, experiences, places and things must be deserved.
Strength of mind through the 0-9 Law teaches us how we as humans can align our will with Great Spirit’s will. Strength of mind leads to clarity and sobriety. Clarity, in this sense, means that the mind is not limited to puny and purely tonal attractions but that we are also able to put what is happening around us (mental coordination) into the perspective of the greater picture. We gain the ability to focus on the highest attractions, the highest possibilities once our minds are free to move at the speed of fast thought and not slowed down by the sludge of pretense and predetermined thought forms (inherited or cathected belief systems). Sobriety is gained through the determination to free the mind from pretense and projection allowing us to free think, gain the ability to solve problems with reason, have an open and unlimited imagination that stretches to see the potential in the future and the flexibility necessary to challenge the mind and to never stop learning.
The connection and degree of communication between the conscious and unconscious minds and the collective consciousness and the collective unconsciousness is an indicator of the strength of mind one possesses. In the years of the razor’s edge, we are all being challenged on every level on a daily basis. It is imperative that we learn to open our conscious minds to the downloads from the unconscious, collective consciousness and the collective unconsciousness and become wise and kind teachers to ourselves. One of our greatest challenges we face right now, is understanding what is happening in our everyday world, determining who we can turn to for ‘expert’ advice and how to discern what is real within the environmental, social and political arenas. We cannot afford to rely on outdated ideas, concepts or belief systems we inherited from our parents, peer groups and teachers – no matter who they are! This is a painfully edgy situation for many of us as we sift through years of action/reaction behavior searching for our own truths. We must remember that searching for strength of mind and our own truths is a part of our hero’s journey and a worthy endeavor. Keep in mind one of the basic tenets of this path: believe nothing! Gather information from all sides of every issue and take it into contemplation and ceremony. Filter and synthesize until you have built your own four-sided pyramid temple based on your four bottom line principle truths that form the foundation for your strength of mind.
If you look at the 0-9 Law in sigil form, it takes the shape of a triangle. The triangular structure underscores the non-linear nature of this law and the non-linear nature of your strength of mind. In a triangle, as in a circle, there is no beginning and no end. However, a triangle, unlike a circle, illustrates the inter-reliability of three structural components that make up the whole. If one of the sides is removed, the entire triangle collapses.

Your ‘baseline’ truth

Now imagine that the base of the triangle is one of your four principle truths that contains the entire movement of 0-9 within it. Test your truth by determining what the 0-9 steps are within this truth. Your truth will teach you what your focus should be, what the substance of the truth is, etc.
Once you have your four truths, marry them together to form your pyramid temple of your strength of mind. This pyramid of self-truth will allow you to navigate the razor’s edge with more grace. Inside the pyramid you will discover there is a secret fifth truth, which in sacred geometric sigil form, creates a tetrahedron inside your pyramid temple. The tetrahedron contains the secrets of the spirals of life. Work with it until you can See.

Two views of the tetrahedron

The Third Value

The Third Value of the Everything: Our Everyday Relationships From a Sacred Law Perspective

The following is excerpted from the Sacred Law manuals - for more information, visit www.sacredlaws.com

The third core value is our relationship to those in our immediate or everyday environment. There are many English expressions that show the importance of the people with whom we spend time and many are based on stereotypes and judgments. Like most stereotypes and judgments, they were built on a kernel of truth that is now long buried. “Birds of a feather flock together”, “By his friends ye shall know him”, “Like attracts like”, are a few examples. The third value peels the layers off these old bromides to reveal the original wisdom: by the Law of Contagion, it does matter with whom we surround ourselves and with whom we spend our lives. We gain and lose orende and energy in our daily interactions with others. When we are heavily focused on and involved with people that choose to focus on concerns and cares which are not valid, are small-minded, caught in pity stories or simply don’t hold the highest possibility in the moment, it drags us down, or contaminates our experience. This inhibits the full expression of our third Larien, - that of life force, chi and health - which is intimately involved in living the third value.
In extreme cases, surrounding ourselves with this type of contamination can lead to a break down of the Larien which in turn, causes disease. Healthy circulation of life force energy is an essential key to self-growth and development. The circulation of chi in our bodies is the nagual equivalent to the tonal blood circulation. At a basic level, this Larien allows us to develop intuition and empathy for the feelings of others, dump our self-importance and become sensitive instead of being at the effect of others. Developing this Larien further enables us to become aware of where our A-point is as well as find it in others so we can choose the quality of our life experience. When our heart is strong and healthy, our emotions run like water. It is very difficult to maintain emotional balance and control and energy in motion (rather than emotionality) when we are constantly besieged by the lowest sort of interaction with the people in our everyday lives. We weary!
The key to developing this Larien lies within the value of our relationship to those in our immediate environment including family, friends, peers, teachers, patients and students. The major area of concern is with our attention. We must always remember: Attention is Power! We need to make sure that those in our immediate environment are worthy of our attention, because when our attention is given we spend our life force energy and chi and it affects our health. If we are wasting a lot of energy on "no returns" or “suckers” then we must stop it by removing the attention or our health will suffer. We must do whatever is necessary to remove our attention from those which are not worthy of our attention from our daily environment and to focus on those people that bring us an increase of orende, an upsurge of energy and increased health and well-being.
This value encourages us to examine those in our everyday environment and make the changes that need to be made. One of the tools that we have is called the Seven Rings of Friendship. It is well worth our time to place the people in our lives in their proper rings, for in this way we can clearly see where we are out of alignment with people and how we gain and lose energy. Take a moment a draw a series of seven concentric circles on a large piece of papers. On another piece of paper write the names of all the people who are “important” to you. Now place them in the seven rings according to their roles. Notice when there is guilt or shame because a person doesn’t belong in the ring you think they “should” belong in. There are no have-to’s in this placement! Look for your own pattern to develop. Do you have a tendency to move people in too close? Before they have earned their position? Or do you keep people at arm’s length? Which rings are empty and which are full? This can be very revealing! Proper placement of people in these rings can avoid many heart-aches that arise through betrayal, disappointment and expectations. It is a No Pity analysis of your everyday environment! Do not be afraid to kick people out of your inner circles, clean house and re-start a healthy circulation.

First Ring- only your beloved, or absolute best friend belongs here. This is the person you trust with your life, whose core values are closely aligned with yours and walks your west shield. Your individuality is not sacrificed with this person and they too will die for you.

Second Ring- your best friends belong here. These are the people you can bring home, share the truth about yourself and place faith in freely. You have common ground and your values are mostly aligned and you feel love or like for them. Be selective!

Third Ring – the friends you can rely on belong here. These are the folks that share some of your values, with whom you can confide some things and have earned a measure or your respect. You may lose individuality if you let these people in too closely before they have earned your respect and faith. We tend to make lots of mistakes within this ring.

Fourth Ring): on and off acquaintances belong here. A little faith may be placed in these people but it is not yet determined how much respect is present. This group may include those with whom you study and learn, for example in a dojo or in a lodge. This ring is the determinative testing ground for friendship.

Fifth Ring - casual acquaintances belong here. This includes people with whom you have interacted one-four times.

Sixth Ring – your antagonists belong here. The people who irritate you but perhaps also teach you!

Seventh Ring – your enemies belong here. These folks may also have something to teach you but do not mistake them for friends.

Having placed people in their appropriate ring of friendship (and perhaps removed people from your sphere of influence), it is time to look more closely at the relationship of your five aspects to the third value. I have prepared a series of questions to open this matrix. Have fun and be honest with yourself.

The Second Value

The Second Value of The Everything: Refinement of Character – A Sacred Law Perspective

The following is an excerpt from Sacred Law School materials. For more information, go to www.sacredlaws.c om

The Second Value, Refinement of Character, holds the key to living with respect: self-respect, respect for others, respect for Grandmother Earth’s children and respect for all life. True character development demands respect and the integrity of the process lies in the hands of those who seek respectfully. Here, as in so many dharmic courses of action, we see the absolute need for the how of the journey, not just thewhat of the journey. It matters a great deal how we go about refining our character, not just that we do it. We can gain insights into how we might proceed respectfully on our journey from the three Sacred Laws that sit in the West with Refinement of Character: the Second Universal – All Things Are Born of Woman and Seeded by Man; the Second Magickal Law of Absolute Interconvertability; and the Second Ecological Balance Law of the Earth and the Sanctity of Organic Matter. These Sacred Laws teach us that we must understand the beauty and power of both the egg and the seed of creation and how the union of the two produces infinite variation of sacred life. Respect for the roles of the egg and the seed, the womb space and the spark and the children born from the union is the physical foundation of the substance of our journey. The journey itself is the converting of our raw, unformed character into something fine and shiny. This journey is the age old Hero’s Journey, the Alchemist’s quest to turn the base soul of man (lead) into brilliant, incorruptible worth (gold).

There are so many stumbling blocks that trip us and trick us into living disrespectfully. One of them that heavily impacts this illusive journey into character is the block of doubt. When doubt sits in the body, there is no room for respect. Doubt is like a chasm across which you cannot jump to continue your quest for character. There must be a certain amount of faith in yourself and your journey to continue. There must be trust in the process of refinement, guided by Sacred Law. When doubt grabs a hold of your belly you see things in dismal black and white and are unable to see the nuances of spirit joy (sanctity of organic matter) that are all around. These nuances are like the cheerleading crowd standing on the sidelines applauding your progress and providing much-needed support. They are small things - smiles from strangers, rustling leaves, the color of a petal, the feel of sun-soaked cat fur, and the smell of coffee - but they are all-important as fuel for your journey. It is necessary to learn the roots of your doubt and exorcise it from your being. The roots are deep in karmic patterned thought and action. How does doubt sneak in? A few examples: When you ascribe the worst possible motives to people in your everyday environment; when you make scenarios in your heads and put words in others’ mouths; when you turn away from opportunities for kindness; you refuse to respect the egg and the seed; when you refuse to see your own beauty; when you fail to recognize that how you do something matters; when you fail to see the beauty of life; when you refuse to recognize the possibility of interconverting your soul’s garbage into compost. Above all, when you allow yourself to act in a way that is beneath your dignity, below your level of awareness, underneath your bottom line of respect, your self-doubt becomes unbearable.

The Hero’s Journey into refining the character is the most worthy journey we can undertake. Armed with respect, recognition of our own self-worth (and that of others), integrity, courage, willingness to stumble and get back up, a thoughtful approach to our own individually held principles, dedication to the sacredness of life and the determination to get down to the substance of ourselves, we can and will find ourselves inside the refinement process, leaving a legend behind that is worthy of our give away of beauty.

The First Value of The Everything: ARTISTIC ORIGINALITY – A Sacred Law Perspective

The following is an excerpt from Sacred Law School materials. For more information, see www.sacredlaws.com

We know that the most essential art project we will ever create is the assemblage of our own true natural self. Artistic originality in the sense of the Seven Values, does not exist solely outside of ourselves to be praised or panned; it rather exists in the deepest interior spaces of our core, waiting to be brought out and realized in its individual shining glory. Artistic originality is the pride with which we present ourselves to the world, aware of our effect on the world but not at the effect of the world.

In designing our own selves as an artful creation, there are of course many pitfalls to be avoided. Looking at the Blocks Wheel provides us with one clue. The block that sits in the East, along with artistic originality is repression. Repression squelches the inner and outer light, smothers illumination and shuts down the forward motion of our own evolutionary excellence. But what does it look like in every day life? It plays out as cruelty, small and large. I have thought a lot about cruelty this past season, in all its forms and have come to recognize that cruelty is the world’s face of our repressed shining naturalness. Repression expressed as cruelty makes it impossible to manifest our artistic originality. In other words, cruelty is the result of our repressed shining artistically original natural self.

Cruelty shuts off our own natural kindness and our own natural sense of one-ness leaving us bereft of our connecting link both to spirit and to our inner selves. Cruelty comes in so many forms and has so many faces: gossip that is destined to reach the ears that it shouldn’t, judgments and misunderstandings, pity –driven reactions, senseless criticism, lack of respect for others- including our teachers - and their own expressions, an inability to speak the unspeakable with measured intent, an inability to walk our talk, an inability to dream ourselves forward, seeking revenge for perceived wrongs, lack of support for friends in need, and plain old unpleasantness and the sloppy way we speak to one another or about one another.

The lack of artistic expression and the manifestation of repression as cruelty is sometimes more easily recognized in others than in ourselves. When we experience someone or something as cruel, what we are really experiencing is the attempt to repress or muffle a part of our shining expression of self. Somehow, the artistic originality of our natural self becomes the object of ridicule and repression. It is our task to recognize this for the pettiness that it is and not allow this repression to become our reality. In this way, we can gain a greater understanding of our own sense of self worth without being at the effect of others. It becomes, then, an excellent opportunity to reflect upon the ways in which we repress our own naturalness and the ways in which our path is not guided by our shining..

As Thunder Strikes said in his address to the 23rd SunDance, paraphrased here “Just because you are on a path with heart or in an upper gateway, doesn’t make you a nice person.” I think this statement is a direct reflection of our tendency to repress our natural goodness, our natural spirit’s desire to create ourselves as a healthy, artistic original cell in Great Spirit’s body. We can’t be natural if we are being cruel and repressive.. As committed apprentices and upholders of our SunDance Vows, our natural, artistically original selves must be Rainbow Warriors, shining with the light of the East and for whom repression and cruelty must be below our collective and individual bottom lines. Perhaps as we delve more deeply into our own naturalness we can also delve more deeply into kindness!

The questions are designed to really get to the core of what artistic originality is for the individual. Not every question applies to every person, of course, but at least one or two questions in each aspect should help you probe more deeply. Follow the thread into your own core.
